Is it really necessary??

I have come to realize that our leaders ask for unnecessary attention. Whenever they are using a road, highway that ordinary citizens use, it has to be closed completely. are we really that dangerous that if we use the same road with these dignitaries we will attack them? are we that desperate to be in contact with them that we will jump in front of a moving vehicle in order to have a few minutes of their attention? It is so sad that we have developed a culture so immature that our leaders are using it to their advantage. I remember there was a time when the president passed by you school and he had no intention of coming in to give you a speech , students had to parade themselves besides the road and dance for him or simply cheer him on. You are disrupting learning to cheer on a leader, how sad?
Today a friend of mine had to be delayed because a dignitary was passing through the famous or infamous( depending on how you take it) Thika Superhighway. interestingly, the road he wanted to use, was not the one the dignitary was using. in shot, if our leader is using the underpass then all the other roads have to be closed also. Sadly, if you look at the history of real, people centered leaders like the late Nelson Mandela or Thomas Sankara, you will realize that they wanted to in contact with those whom they serve. They enjoyed the personal contact and the exchange of smiles. 
My question therefore stands, is it really necessary to have people so far away but yet you demand their attention by preventing them to carry on with their usual activities? Is it necessary to stay so far away yet those who have given you the opportunity of leadership are the ones you need to be in close contact with? We need our leaders to change.
