SK Macharia, was pocketing Sh 400 million per month now its gone

Royal Media Services owner, SK Macharia, was pocketing Sh 400 million per month as advertising revenue from Citizen TV and his six radio stations. According to a former Finance Manager working with RMS, Macharia who co-owns the business with his wife Purity Gathoni Githae started making millions after Safaricom and Airtel started aggressive marketing through TVs, Newspapers and Radios. The manager said Safaricom, Airtel, the Government of Kenya, Kenya Revenue Authority, Unilever are some of the institutions that have enriched SK Macharia. He said the reason why Macharia is opposing the digital migration is because his profits will nose dive from Sh 400 million per month to close to Sh 40 million per month because the advertisers will spread their costs to over 44 TV stations which are already in the digital platform. The manager, who is currently working with a local bank, also supported the digital migration saying that this will reduce monopoly by some big media houses and also create more employment for Kenyans.
